Magnetic stripe cards are mainly used for loyalty cards and membership cards. They are often used for access control as ID cards. The magnetic stripe is a carrier of electronically readable information. There are 2 types of magnetic stripes – HiCo (high coercivity) and LoCo (low coercivity). Magnetic stripеs with high coercivity are more difficult to erase and are more suitable for cards that are frequently used or will be used for a longer period of time. Magnetic stripes with low coercivity require less magnetic energy to record information and are therefore less durable.
The magnetic stripe itself consists of three tracks. The first ISO standard track can record up to 79 alphanumeric characters, the second – up to 40 numeric characters, and the third track up to 104 numeric characters.
